Movement and laughter during play lights up the brain more than anything else. It’s an essential daily ingredient to healthy, connected, and fun living that is tragically undervalued.
Play is not just break time or a luxury for kids. It’s a skill that needs to be nurtured and practiced and matured over time. The problem is that most adults have lost that skill and don’t realize it OR don’t see the value in relearning. Many parents have a hard time playing with their children. Too tired, too busy, don’t enjoy the same activities, it’s repetitive and boring, don’t know how to play…if you ever feel this way…you are NOT alone!
Our culture values results so much that we attach our worthiness to it. Test scores and grades define us. Trophies acknowledge us. The prize or the punishment, the praise or the disappointment is what we work for or work to avoid. We may get the results we are looking for, the behavior that’s accepted, but it’s all driven by extrinsic expectations and agendas.
Play, by nature, does not have results attached to it. It’s the source of intrinsic motivation and desire and curiosity and wonder. It’s our heart. It’s the thing that should be our life’s engine. But, sadly, it’s driven out of us.
What color is this? Where is the cow? Find the big circle. It’s all a test. The kids perform it to get your smile and your love. You love them no matter what, but they read something else. Praise in accomplishment rather than the process. The prize for one success rather than acknowledgement for the grit to get through the 100 failed attempts before it. Play is not a test. Play is a way of being: open, curious, courageous, generous, reciprocal, connected, vulnerable, honest, cooperative.
So, let’s practice some play. Unplugged, minimally structured, and fully connected. You’ll have access to toys and play things and loose parts that inspire creativity and connection, fun and laughter.
New experiences lead to fresh connections within and between each of you, and empowers you both as you explore and discover together.
Movement, play, fun, growth. Does it get any better than that?
The fee is $15 for the hour and we limit it to 12 children to make sure everyone has a fantastic time.
